Mother’s Day at The Mile End

Show Mum the love this Mother’s Day with lunch, dinner or drinks at The Mile End!

Join us at The Mile End and spoil your Mum with a Mother’s Day lunch or dinner. Indulge in our extensive Mother’s Day menu that has been carefully crafted by our Head Chef featuring locally sourced produce.

Then after your main treat Mum to an Espresso chocolate tart or a delicious passionfruit cheesecake. Or for something fresh, floral and light, the Summer Rose cocktail is the perfect option.

Throughout the afternoon Dusty Lee will be playing live music from 3pm. Enjoy a cocktail or wine from our extensive wine list whilst relaxing and listening to live acoustic music with your Mum and loved ones. Additionally, happy hour will be on from 2-6pm which includes $10 selected cocktails, $7 pints and $1 off wine by the glass.

History of Mother’s Day

On Sunday many Australians will spend the day celebrating their mother’s and other special women in their lives.

Some mums may be given cards, flowers and gifts, while others may enjoy breakfast in bed or a lunch out.

Mothers Day has long been a part of the Australian calendar, but where did the idea to dedicate the second Sunday in May to honouring motherhood come from?

The modern Australian celebration of Mother’s Day actually grew out of calls for peace and anti-war campaigns following the American Civil War (1861-65).

In 1870, American writer and women’s rights activist Julia Ward Howe, best known as the author of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, appealed to women to unite and bring peace throughout the world (later known as the Mother’s Day Proclamation).

She proposed that a mothers day for peace be commemorated every year in June.

But the idea of a mother’s day did not gain traction until 1908, when West Virginia woman Anna Marie Jarvis held a church memorial to honour the legacy of her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis. – read more on the history of Mother’s Day.
